Welcome to the Scout page of the Lisburn and District website. This page will give you some background as to what Scouts get up to and hopefully convince you to join in and play a part.

So just what is a Scout?

A Scout is typically aged between ten and a half years and fourteen years. Scouts are young people who want to make friends and develop widening interests in ways that are both educational and fun. Perfect if you want a break from the usual after-school routine of homework, games and watching television. A group of Scouts known as a Troop meet at each of the 12 Groups within the District.

What do Scouts do?

Scout activities are about action and involvement and this means more than just camping. Troops will often go hiking, rock climbing, gliding, sailing, pioneering, canoeing, abseiling, put on shows and exhibitions, undertake motor mechanics, electronics, photography - the list is endless! Scouts are also given the chance to learn skills in survival, cooking and first aid. There are often opportunities to go abroad. Over the last two years Troops from our district have gone as far as America, Canada, the Czech republic and Poland to take part in camps as  well as undertaking smaller ones near to home.

We currently have over 110 Scouts in the District. Each Troop is a member of a Scout Group and each Scout Group is a member of a District. There are currently 12 Scout Groups in our District from Annahilt to Seymour Hill. We also run annual District competitions between the Troops such as indoor and outdoor football, athletics, first aid, scouting skills and a quiz.  Don’t just take our word for it, go to http://www.scouts.org.uk/scouts/ and see the fantastic things we and other Scouts throughout the rest of the UK get up to.

So why join Scouts?

Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes to ensure respect for themselves and for others.

What do Scouts wear?

Scouts wear a teal green smart shirt, a pair of navy blue activity trousers and their Group scarf.
